Dominion card game
Dominion is a fantastic game with many expansions. Despite all the expansions that Dominion has, the rules of Dominion remain quite simple. You start Dominion with seven money cards and three victory cards. Victory cards are of no use to you now, but you can use them to see who has won in the end.
When it is your turn, you draw five cards from your own pile and you may play action cards. If you have no more actions or action cards, you may buy cards with the coins you have in your hand. This way, your pile of cards (deck) gets better and better and you can buy more expensive cards each round.
The power of Dominion really lies in its enormous diversity. Because you only use ten different action cards during a Dominion game, you can vary a lot and no game of Dominion is the same. If you eventually have all the Dominion expansions, you can continue to vary between all the different cards for an infinite amount of time. Because you can also take cards from different Dominion expansions, no game of Dominion will be the same. Dominion is therefore highly recommended!
Which Dominion expansion should I choose?
To play a Dominion expansion, you need the Dominion base game. The Dominion base game already contains 500 cards, which makes every game different! But the real Dominion fan loves expansions and that's why you probably can't wait to start your next adventure! But which expansion should you choose? We'll help you!
Dominion Intrigue
Dominion Intrigue used to be a base game, but the new edition is an expansion. That's why you still need the base game of Dominion to play Dominion Intrigue. In it you will find 26 new kingdom cards. In Dominion Intrigue you will find victory cards that also have an action or function. A cool addition, because it makes it feel much less useless when you have a hand full of victory cards! You will also find 'subjects' that have multiple actions and where you have to choose which action they perform. Dominion Intrigue also contains spectacular cards to thwart other players and a new defense card.
Dominion Hoists the Sails
In Dominion Raise the Sails you will find, among other things, 26 new kingdom cards, money and embargo tokens and various tableaus. There are three different tableaus per player that are linked to specific cards. On the first tableau you can store cards (so you can get the annoying Dominion cards out of your hand!), on the second tableau you will find the pirate ship with which you can annoy other players and on which you can collect coins yourself and on the third tableau you can save cards that you can take into your hand later. In Dominion Raise the Sails you will also find durable cards (the orange cards), which remain for more than one turn and which you can therefore use for a longer period of time! For example, you have an action or an extra coin the next turn.
Dominion Prosperity
In Dominion Prosperity you will find money, a lot of money. But with a lot of money you can buy expensive cards and that is what you will do in Dominion Prosperity. To start with, you will find the Platinum card (worth 5 coins) and the Colony card (worth 10 victory points). In short: you will become rich and everything revolves around money! Because you have a lot of money, you have the feeling that you can do much more than with other expansions. In addition, in Dominion Prosperity you will find money cards with action options, cards with interaction with money cards and very expensive but therefore also powerful cards. Finally, Dominion Prosperity adds cards that yield extra victory points in the form of tokens.
Dominion The Hinterland
Dominion The Hinterland adds 26 new kingdom cards to the game, including 20 action cards, 3 reaction cards, 3 victory cards, 3 money cards and 12 location cards. The special thing about the cards in Dominion The Hinterland is that they all grant something immediately when you buy or take them, allowing you to expand your hand faster. No earth-shattering changes in Dominion The Hinterland, but a nice direct bonus and of course we are not against that. In addition, more cards always provide more variety and therefore even more games of Dominion.
Dominion The Dark Ages
Dominion The Dark Ages adds 500 cards to the game, including 35 kingdom cards, several plague cards that you can give to other players (Ruins), new cards to replace starting estates (Shelter), and cards that can only be obtained via certain other cards. The central theme of Dominion The Dark Ages? Destruction! That becomes more important than ever, because many cards directly affect it. There are cards that do something when they are destroyed, there are cards that directly affect the 'destroyed cards' pile, but there are also cards that upgrade themselves and cards with ways to upgrade other cards.
Dominion Adventures
Dominion Adventures contains 400 cards, 6 tables and 60 tokens. In the 30 new kingdom cards you will find, among other things, a number of durable cards, which have a long-term bonus and are also active in subsequent turns. Furthermore, in Dominion Adventures you will find reserve cards, which you can save for later and event cards, with which you can buy other things than cards, such as tokens that change the effects of cards. Because there are only 2 event cards active at a time and because there are a lot of different tokens, the variation in a game of Dominion is even greater. Finally, in Dominion Adventures you can play cards on your inn tableau. This removes the card from the game, but you can call it up again.
Dominion Empires
Dominion Empires is a large expansion with many additions to the base game. For example, you have debt cards, which you can already buy while you don't actually have the money yet. Of course, you have to pay them back as soon as possible, because until then you can't buy anything else. In Dominion Empires you will also find sights (cards with a new rule for during the game, with which you can score victory points) and events (something you buy once and which gives you an advantage for that moment). Finally, in Dominion Empires you will find stacks with cards that are constantly upgrading, such as castles.
Dominion Nocturne
Dominion Nocturne is a very interesting and large expansion, adding no less than 500 cards (including 33 kingdom cards). The most interesting addition are the night cards, which are played after the acquisition phase and thus actually add a whole new phase (the night phase) to the game. In addition, Dominion Nocturne adds fate and doom cards that provide favors, but also enchantments (and you don't want those). Finally, in Dominion Nocturne you will find heirlooms that replace the starting copper cards and various extra cards that come into play as a result of certain cards.
Dominion Alchemists & Abundance
Two Dominion expansions in one: that's what you want! Even more variety in one game box! In Dominion Alchemists you will find a new currency: the magic potion. Because of this, you will clearly have to put in a bit more effort for some cards! With Dominion Alchemists, countless new combinations are created, with the most spectacular card being 'Possessed', which allows you to take an extra turn with the cards of your left neighbor! In Dominion Abundance you have to focus on a variety of cards in your deck, because you get extra points or coins for that. In addition, there are prize cards with rewards that you can win when playing the 'tournament'. There is only one copy of each prize, so be quick!
Dominion Renaissance
Dominion Renaissance adds 300 cards, including 25 new kingdom cards. You will also find money chests and villagers (tokens). These allow you to save money and actions and save them for later. Super handy, because this means you will have less trouble with hands full of action cards and there will be a coin waiting for you if you are just one short! Dominion Renaissance also adds projects; cards that you can buy for an advantage, but that do not end up in your deck. Finally, Dominion Renaissance contains artifacts, for which players compete with each other.
Dominion Menagerie
Dominion Menagerie contains 400 cards, including 30 new kingdom cards full of beasts! It is an expansion with many new options. There are special horse cards, but also events, which you can buy before a purchase and which give you an advantage, and track cards, which give all action cards an alternative possibility. So there is a lot to choose from before you buy something! But the best addition of Dominion Menagerie has to be 'banishing'. With this function you can clean up your deck and keep the banished cards on your board.
