Spirit Island - Board Game (EN)

Description

The island needs your help in this cooperative board game!

There have been powerful spirits on this isolated island since time immemorial. They are part of the natural world and at the same time something supernatural. Local residents, the Dahan, have learned to live alongside the spirits, but with a healthy dose of caution and respect. However, the island has now been “discovered” by invaders from a far away country. These would-be settlers take over the land and disrupt the natural balance, destroying the presence of the spirits along the way. As spirits, you must develop your qualities and work together to drive the invaders off your island before it's too late!

Each round the spirits take action simultaneously, using their properties to push back the invaders, strengthen the island and help the local population, the Dahan. However, the spirits start small and limited, and must learn new tricks to compete with the rapidly advancing invaders, who, based on game-driven actions, spread across the island and build settlements, causing death and destruction along the way. sow. To win, the spirits (with the help of the Dahan) must destroy the invaders and chase away any survivors. However, the game ends in defeat if the island is overrun by the plague, if a spirit is completely destroyed, or if you act too slowly and cannot drive away the invaders in time.

Are you a fan of cooperative games such as The Legends of Andor and Paleo, but are you looking for something a little more complicated and challenging? Then you might really like Spirit Island. The basic game alone is very variable with its many different spirits and random factors. Let alone if you also add some more extras such as concrete opponents and higher difficulty levels. Spirit Island is ranked incredibly high in the BoardGameGeek games rankings, so for cooperative gaming enthusiasts, the question isn't if you want to play it, but rather when!

In Spirit Island you try together to ensure that the invaders do not overrun the island. Each round consists of 5 different phases, in which different things happen. Within each phase, the players play simultaneously, where they are allowed to discuss freely. Talking at the table is not only allowed, but usually necessary to win.

In the spirit phase the spirits grow, gain energy and are allowed to play trait cards. In the second phase the players handle fast properties, in the third phase it is the turn of the game-controlled invaders. They send out their scouts, destroy the land and build various settlements. After they are ready, the spirits deal with their slow properties. In phase 5, the players prepare for the next round.

At the start of the game, the invaders are at panic level 1. They are not afraid of the island and probably don't even know about the existence of the spirits. To win, you must completely clear the island of invaders. Earning Fear Cards will help you reach new levels of Panic with easier victory conditions. If you meet the current victory condition at any time, you win immediately. The invaders have then taken more than they can handle and all leave the island. You can lose in 3 ways: too much land has been destroyed, a spirit has been destroyed, or time has expired. Try to prevent that together and save the island!
