Whether a player wants to clear a forest on their own board, buy a new cutter, or build a building, they must place a worker in the correct space - which is only possible if there is room for that worker. Money is scarce, and one of the faster and easier ways to get it is to put shares of your own company on the market. This risky action can be worth it, because if you manage to buy these shares yourself, you will usually have won money and suffered no downsides.
